Heart attacks are one of the leading causes of death for men and women in the United States. At least 80 percent of heart attacks that occur can be prevented. There are simple lifestyle changes we can do to help prevent a heart attack. Maintaining a healthy weight and diet, adopting a regular exercise program, avoiding cigarettes and keeping alcohol consumption at a minimum can help reduce risks. Simple changes such as including fruit, veggies, legumes, nuts, reduced-fat dairy products, fish, and whole grains in your diet to keep your heart healthy and exercising at least one hour per week can go a long way.
